Scott Adkins Joins Ip Man 4!

As if we weren’t already hyped for Donnie Yen‘s return as the eponymous legend of Wing Chun in the upcoming “Ip Man 4”, we’ve just been given that much more reason to be with the news that British action star Scott Adkins is set to join the film. A meeting of legends that’s been a long time coming to say the least!

The news broke at the weekend when Scott posted the image above on his social media pages with the following message:

“I’m extremely excited to report that I’m currently in China shooting Ip Man 4 with the great Donnie Yen 甄子丹 who I have been a huge fan of since the 80’s. Donnie personally asked me to play this part and for sure you guys won’t be disappointed, especially with our action director being the legendary Yuen Woo Ping. I consider the Ip Man films to be modern martial arts film masterpieces and it’s an honour to be part of director Wilson Yip’s vision.”

Donnie himself welcomed Scott to “Ip Man 4” on his own social media pages with the following message:

“I am proud to have this amazing martial artist/talented actor into the journey! Welcome to the family Scott!”

Donnie Yen has been a respected and revered action hero in Hong Kong cinema going back to the late 80’s, but it was in the mid-2000’s that he shot into the stratosphere with his innovative use of MMA-based action in 2005’s “Sha Po Lang” (aka “Kill Zone”) and 2007’s “Flash Point“. With 2008’s “Ip Man“, Donnie took on what would become his signature role of the mentor of the legendary Bruce Lee, and shot to international megastardom. Donnie reprised the role in two sequels in 2010 and 2015, respectively, and later made show-stealing appearances in such worldwide blockbusters as “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “xXx: Return of Xander Cage“.

“Ip Man 4” also marks just one of several upcoming or soon-to be-released projects with Scott Adkins. Following the release of his long-gestating pet project “Accident Man” earlier this year ( find out more about the UK premiere held by the Fighting Spirit Film Festival last month). Scott is set to appear in the upcoming “The Debt Collector” under the direction of stunt veteran Jesse V. Johnson, with whom he previously worked on “Accident Man”, “Pit Fighter“, and last year’s “Savage Dog“. Scott will also soon be seen in the highly anticipated martial arts ensemble “Triple Threat“, alongside Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Tiger Chen, Michael Jai White, Celina Jade, Michael Bisping, and Jeeja Yanin, and once again under Jesse Johnson’s direction, with stunt man and kicking machine Tim Man serving as action director. Additionally, Scott will also bring the thunder in the Egyptian action thriller “Harb Karmooz”, the trailer for which you can see below.

Scott will be the latest star from the English-speaking world to join the “Ip Man” franchise. “Ip Man 2” handed the duties of villainous English boxer “The Twister” to the late Darren Shalavi (RIP), while “Ip Man 3” pitted our hero against former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. “Ip Man 4” will mark Donnie’s first onscreen collaboration with Scott Adkins, after missing the boat with 2012’s “The Expendables 2”, though it’s a safe bet that it’s probably been worth the wait!

“Ip Man 4″ is currently in production in China, stay tuned for more info on the film as it unveils its first trailer and release date.
