John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum trailer online!

Students of Latin will be intimately familiar with the saying “Sic vis pacem, para bellum” – “If you want peace, prepare for war”. As evidenced by the title of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”, the world’s deadliest assassin has nothing less than a war to contend with after violating the sacred space of The Continental in 2017’s “John Wick: Chapter 2“. And in the lead up to the film’s highly anticipated May 17th release, fans can catch a glimpse at just how much of a war Mr. Wick is in for, with the film’s recently released trailer, which you can see below…

The film picks up right where chapter two left off, with John Wick and his loyal dog on the run, with just an hour before every assassin in New York City declares open season on them. The film’s official synopsis offers fans an idea of what’s in store:

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons…he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

Between the synopsis, new trailer, and poster art pitting John Wick against a literal army of enemies, it’s clear that “Parabellum” is aiming to be the most expansive, high stakes entry the series has ever seen. That’s without even bringing up the film’s two-hour and twenty-three minute running time, making it the franchise’s longest film to date.

Furthermore, on top of Reeves’ return as the title character (which now arguably rivals Neo as his signature role), “Parabellum” is packed to the gills with a murders row of action movie royalty. Specifically, Mark Dacascos, Hiroyuki Sanada, Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman, and Tiger Chen (who recently joined KFK’s Hall of Fame) who famously headlined Reeves’ 2013 directorial debut, “Man of Tai Chi“).

The ensemble cast also sees the return of Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King from “Chapter 2”, along with Halle Berry in the role of Wick’s fellow assassin and close ally Sofia. Stunt veteran Chad Stahelski also returns to the director’s chair – which, on top of rounding out the film’s action movie A-list only further cements the inevitable sense of amazement that will strike younger moviegoers who learn that he’d previously been Reeves’ own stunt man for “The Matrix“!

The Continental will open its doors again when “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” arrives on May 17th.
