Fifteen years ago, Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” blew audiences away and introduced the English-speaking world to both wire-fu and the wuxia genre. The film’s long-awaited sequel, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” was originally set to release on August 28th before being pushed back to February 26th 2016, leaving fans of the original in a bit of an unforeseen bind. Fortunately, the official trailer has just been released, and it’s pretty apt to call it a trip down memory lane!
Written by John Fusco, scribe of “The Forbidden Kingdom” and “Marco Polo”, under the direction of the original film’s fight choreographer, the legendary Yuen Woo-ping, the film sees Michelle Yeoh return to her role of Yu Shu-lien with Donnie Yen coming aboard as the new character, Silent Wolf. Vietnamese pop star Veronica Ngo of “The Rebel” will also appear in the role of Mantis, with Roger Yuan, Juju Chan, Eugenia Yuan, and Harry Shum Jr. also among the cast.
Of course, one face that also stands out in the trailer is that of Jason Scott Lee, who is well-known for his portrayal of the title character in 1993’s “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story”. So, yep you guessed it, the parts of the trailer showing him in pitched battle with Donnie Yen have no subtext to read into – none whatsoever!
Stay tuned for more info on the release of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” as it arrives!
