Stuntman Chris Brewster Makes Directing Debut with “Outbreak Z”!

There’s a growing, and extremely agreeable trend, of stunt people making the leap to directing action films. Recent years have seen Chad Stahelski and David Leitch kick off the “John Wick” franchise (with the latter later helming “Atomic Blonde”, “Deadpool 2”, and next year’s “Fast and Furious” spin-off, “Hobbs and Shaw”) while Jesse V. Johnson can claim “Accident Man”, “The Debt Collector”, and the highly anticipated “Triple Threat” on his 2018 resume. The latest stunt pro to make the leap to the director’s chair is Chris Brewster, best known for his dual roles of doubling for Daredevil and Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will helm Winter State Entertainment’s forthcoming “Outbreak Z”!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Outbreak Z” is described as “a fresh and action-oriented take on the zombie genre.” Brewster says of the film, “The DNA of our project is ‘action movie’ through and through, and that is why we are casting Hollywood’s stunt superstars in lead roles. Our zombies will not move or act like anything that the audience has seen before — the action tells the story, so the reactions and defense against the zombies will be vastly different than prior movies in this genre. I truly believe that stunt performing is a dream job. We play full contact make-believe and the more fun we have, the more fun the audience will have!

One of the film’s producers, Hamid Torabpour, further elaborated on the film’s unique take on the zombie genre, and the central role stunt people will play in it: “Outbreak Z will not be your typical zombie movie…Chris’ experience on many Marvel features makes him the perfect leader for this film. We will take a very stylistic and unique approach, utilizing the industry’s top stunt performers in the main cast roles, aiming to go beyond what mainstream features can accomplish on screen. With this feature, we want to highlight the amazing work that stunt performers bring to film and give them the spotlight in lead roles.

The centralized role of stunt professionals in crafting “Outbreak Z” will no doubt come as welcome news to action fans, and we at KFK fully support the stunt community being given this kind of opportunity to really cut lose.
