Back in 2019, the first season of Netflix’s supernatural, martial arts series “Wu Assassins” debuted. Despite the show being a big hit with a strong reception, news remained mum on whether things would continue from there for some time.
That changed in early 2021 with the announcement that part two of the “Wu Assassins” franchise, “Fistful of Vengeance”, would switch gears from a series to a movie. Now the wait is finally nearing its end, with “Fistful of Vengeance” set to hit Netflix on February 17th and the trailer officially online, check it out below if you haven’t already done so!

The official synopsis gives viewers a glimpse into what to expect from “Fistful of Vengeance”:
“Super-powered assassin Kai and friends Lu Xin and Tommy track a killer from San Francisco’s Chinatown to Thailand to avenge the death of a loved one. But their hunt soon entangles them with old enemies, a mysterious billionaire and an ancient mystical force bent on taking over the world. Iko Uwais (The Raid) stars with Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat), Lawrence Kao (Max Steel) and Pearl Thusi (Queen Sono) in this fast-and-furious martial arts action film.”
For those who came in late, “Wu Assassins” focused on Iko Uwais as San Francisco-based chef Kai Jin, who becomes the supernatural warrior known as the Wu Assassin. With the five Wu Warlords pursuing a power source known as the “Wu Xing”, it’s up to Kai and his closest allies to stop the Wu Warlords before the power falls into the wrong hands.
While it’s not clear why it took so long for “Fistful of Vengeance” to be announced after “Wu Assassins”, it looks like the wait has been well worth it. Directed by Roel Reine with a reported running time of about 95 minutes, “Fistful of Vengeance” looks like it’s wasting no time at all in kicking off the main event. Iko Uwais and Lewis Tan look sharp as ever in the trailer. Even better, the action looks very eclectic, from knife-fighting elements out of “The Raid” to hatchet combat out of a Shaw Brothers movie, and plenty of fist and foot play (ahem, to boot) wrapping it all up!

Though the trailer only features some quick flashes of her, JuJu Chan Szeto is also back in “Fistful of Vengeance” as the sinister Triad assassin Zan Hui. While Zan is still a clear antagonist in “Fistful of Vengeance”, the real nemesis looks to be Ku An Qi, played by Rhatha Phongam. In the end, the trailer for “Fistful of Vengeance” keeps everything fairly basic, with vengeance and fists galore on display. Viewers will just have to wait until it’s released to see how “Fistful of Vengeance” continues the story of “Wu Assassins”. Still, as the movie was filmed in Thailand, you never know if Tony Jaa might jump in for an unexpected cameo (he and Iko will meet again one way or another later this year in “The Expendables 4”!)
