The term “legacy” is as apt as any for a franchise like “The Karate Kid”, spanning an astounding 40 years and returning with a 21st century revival that would be the envy of any ‘80s classic in its modern continuation, “Cobra Kai”. It seems not only fitting then, but practically necessary for “Cobra Kai” to conclude its sixth and final season with 15 episodes released five at time over the course of several months, and wrapping up just three months ahead of the release of the franchise’s return to cinema screens in “Karate Kid: Legends”. Even better, the epic finale “Cobra Kai” ends on is one not only guaranteed to drive fans of the show into cinemas for the next chapter of “The Karate Kid” universe, but also to see where the young students of Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai, and their new rivals the Iron Dragons go in the future!

Plot
Following the ending of “Cobra Kai” season five, it seems the impossible has finally come to pass – Terry Silver has been defeated, the students of Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do have become friends and training partners, and Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso have united the students of both schools together under one roof. Johnny even seems to have finally met Daniel halfway in making himself and his Eagle Fang students full devotees of Miyagi-Do karate. Even better, the students of Miyagi-Do are preparing to embark on their biggest adventure yet in the upcoming international Sekai Taikai tournament, though only six students will be chosen to represent the school.
As Johnny and Daniel set about selecting their students with the help of Chozen Toguchi and the very unexpected assistance of Daniel’s old enemy Mike Barnes, Cobra Kai’s former headmaster John Kreese has not only escaped from prison, but has begun masterminding his school’s return to the top with some old allies from South Korea.
As Kreese arrives with his revamped Cobra Kai team at the Sekai Taikai, several of Miyagi-Do’s most skilled students – including Tory Nichols, Robby Keene, Miguel Diaz, Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz, Demetri Alexopoulos, Kenny Payne, and Samantha LaRusso – all face both life changing decisions and events as they prepare to enter adulthood, along with many unexpected challenges at the tournament itself that will change all of them forever.
Action
“Cobra Kai” Season Six Has Big Conflict & Big Stakes
After becoming a genuine phenomenon since its inception, “Cobra Kai” kicks season six off with one hell of a set up for its 15-episode run. With Terry Silver defeated and the fall-out from “Cobra Kai” season five mostly resolved, “Cobra Kai” season six actually starts its story off with its characters in a state of relative harmony. The Miguel-Robby and Tory-Samantha feuds have done a complete 180 into outright friendships, but the acrimony between each of them has still left some scars to be healed that each of them faces in their training for the Sekai Taikai.
The well-known mastery of “Cobra Kai” in giving each character their own arc that’s both independent of and integral to the rest is made a bigger foundation of the show than ever before in season six, including in Daniel’s discovery of a hidden chapter of Mr. Miyagi’s past.
All roads lead to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that the Sekai Taikai represents, but the first five episodes of “Cobra Kai” season six do an exemplary job of gradually ramping up how definitive a showdown the students of Miyagi-Do and Kreese’s revived Cobra Kai are headed into.
For quite a few characters, “Cobra Kai” season six calls upon them to put all their cards on the table for the biggest fight of their lives, and in a few cases some of the most defining decisions they’ll ever made – and some of the most enthralling fight scenes on “Cobra Kai”. Of course, that includes the two main pillars of “The Karate Kid” franchise.
Johnny & Daniel Still Can’t Bury The Hatchet!
If there’s one constant theme running through all six seasons of “Cobra Kai”, it’s how deeply the trauma of adolescent conflict and bullying can run not only in the present, but decades into adulthood. Case in point – Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso teaching in the same dojo. “Cobra Kai” has never shied away from highlighting just how fundamentally different Johnny and Daniel are both as senseis and as men, and one of season six’s key conflicts is how, try as they might, Johnny and Daniel just cannot seem to move on from their rivalry for good.
Needless to say, both stakes and comedy ensue in spades from Johnny and Daniel’s sensei partnership. From the friction of their disparate martial arts philosophies and teaching styles, to Johnny making the most unlikely of career changes through Daniel’s inadvertent help, Johnny and Daniel are quite evidently headed into the moment of truth as “Cobra Kai” season six truly puts them to the test of whether they can ever find a way to get along and coach their shared students at the tournament. The “Cobra Kai” kids, meanwhile, have a whole other adventure to embark upon alongside Johnny and Daniel.
The Students All Kick Butt – But Tory Is The All-Star (& Zara Is Season 6’s Break-Out Newbie)
Most of the teenage protagonists of “Cobra Kai” are heading into adulthood when season six begins, which naturally sets all of them up for some intense training and fight scenes and personal stories, as well. Demetri and Eli’s respective college aspirations or Kenny’s newfound confidence bordering on arrogance could provide the basis of an entire season of “Cobra Kai” all on their own, but the parallel stories of Robby and Miguel and Tory and Sam coming to terms with their former rivalries and trying to become friends is the real heart of season six’s first five episodes. And it bears repeating that Tory has once again stolen the show on “Cobra Kai”.
Tory has been through a lot to say the least in her difficult life of being a teenager providing for her family to becoming Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do’s most promising student. Peyton List strikes a whole new balance in her performance as Tory, fighting for glory in the Sekai Takai and fighting the darkness inside of herself along the way.
Tory also once again is the highlight fighter in the fight scenes of “Cobra Kai”, with some of her best fight scenes of the whole series arriving in Miyagi-Do’s in-school competition to select the school’s two captains for the tournament, and in the adrenaline-packed battles of the Sekai Taikai itself. Tory also finds a new unexpected rival in the Instagram-savvy competitor Zara Malik who is the rare opponent to truly give her a run for her money. And talk about a late addition making the most of their time on the show and then some, but Rayna Vallandingham’s endearing performance as the talented by arrogant Zara is easily the stand-out new character of “Cobra Kai” season 6 – hopefully one “The Karate Kid” franchise has further plans for after the egotistical but lovable Queen of Karate’s all-smiles Instagram updates and enthralling fight scenes in the Sekai Taikai.
The Sekai Taikai Sets The Foundation For An Amazing Final Season For “Cobra Kai”!
The first third of “Cobra Kai” season six is an intricate web of one-upmanship, determination, and even betrayals within the ranks of both Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. All of these attributes only get turned up to their zenith in the epic showdown of the Sekai Taikai. Between Johnny and Daniel’s continued rivalry with one another and Daniel’s efforts to uncover the mystery of Mr. Miyagi’s darker past that he never knew, the human element of “The Karate Kid” franchise is the perfect backdrop for the kind of epic karate war promised by the Sekai Taikai.
And talk about a karate war – if “Cobra Kai” is indeed to end with season six, one can certainly say the show is giving its audience what they came for in the action-packed battles of the Sekai Taikai. Already set up as season six’s fighter to beat, the formidable spinning-kick machine Kwon is as much of a highlight of the tournament as Tory, Robby, and Miguel in the competitions increasingly complex matches, which include fights on raised platforms similar to Chinese lei tai matches and even tag-team matches. The latter also accounts for one of Kenny’s most triumphant victories of “Cobra Kai”, punctuated by a delectable visual punchline on Kenny’s part that cements his warrior’s skill and loyalty to his friends in both hilarious and cheer-worthy fashion.
“Cobra Kai” has also never been a show to leave anything to be desired in its season’s endings. Suffice it to day, “Cobra Kai” season six concludes on not one but three of the most Earth-shattering “Cobra Kai” battles of all that all bring the Cobra Kai dojo itself back into play as the very foundation of the show, and the finale even calling upon it’s protagonist to summon the assistance of the last trainer he and “Karate Kid” fans ever would have expected.
Summary
Even the greatest of streaming series must one day conclude its story, and “Cobra Kai” season six goes out with the biggest of bangs. Both a slow burn and a blazing inferno of training, fighting, competition, along with shocking and even heart-breaking betrayal and tragedy, “Cobra Kai” dives head-first into its final season with a no-can-defend kick to the face of exhilarating action and powerful character arcs. “Karate Kid: Legends” may cement that “The Karate Kid” franchise is far from over, but as the concluding chapter of its “Cobra Kai” wing, season six is indeed the best around!
