It’s been a long time coming, but “Unlucky Stars” is finally reaching its final approach stage. Directed by Dennis Ruel, a veteran of Eric Jacobus’ cadre of stunt performers known as The Stunt People, the film is intended as an homage to 80’s Hong Kong action films and going by the trailer, perhaps a preliminary “Mission Accomplished” appear to be in order!
In addition to directing, Ruel (who was also recently seen trading punches with Eric Jacobus in “Rope-A-Dope 2“) leads the cast of the film, which is comprised of a laundry list of accomplished stunt performers and independent action filmmakers, such as Ken Quitugua, Vlad Rimburg, Giovanni Espiritu, Jose Montesinos, Sari Sabella, Sam Hargrave, Emmanuel Manzanares, Shawn Bernal, and Steven Yu. The official synopsis reveals what fans can expect:
“When Peru’s Biggest Action Film Star and Jordan’s newest rising talent find themselves pursued by a notorious Bookie, a pair of private investigators are forced to choose between their job and their conscience.”
The film is set to be released later this year, and reviews thus far from Kiak-Kick, Budomate, and Film Combat Syndicate has been unanimously positive. However, those in the San Francisco Bay area will have the chance to see the film in a preview showing on February 19th, alongside the cast and crew of the film, no less!
