Underground tournaments with martial artists battling to the death are a tale as old as time for martial arts fans, and one of the few that we ever tire of.
One who most definitely did not desert the idea is filmmaker Ranjeet S. Marwa, who has put his own spin on that concept with his upcoming martial arts actioner “Exiled: The Chosen Ones”.
With the movie hitting Amazon Prime on July 14th, viewers can catch a glimpse of what they’re in for in the movie’s trailer below!
In “Exiled”, Sunny Pang portrays a Yakuza foot solider who finds himself unexpectedly imprisoned alongside other inmates. As he and the others soon discover, they’re being held captive by wealthy onlookers, who have set them all up to do battle in a deadly survival scenario, with the spectators betting on the survivor of the most harrowing ordeal.
English-speaking viewers likely know Sunny Pang best for his role as the villainous “Lee” in 2017’s “Headshot”, directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto (the latter of whom later helmed “The Night Comes For Us”).
With “Headshot” putting Sunny opposite Iko Uwais in a tale of a bitter, adoptive familial assassin drama, it hit hard and took no prisoners in its Silat action scenes that are both breathtaking in their fine-tuned assembly whilst being the epitome of “Viewer Discretion Advised”.
Sunny is bringing that same energy to “Exiled”, and judging from the trailer, the film as a whole seems to very much be on the “Headshot” wavelength in both tone and action.
Though keeping itself fairly brief at just 55 seconds, the “Exiled” trailer dangles quite a carrot for martial arts fans to sink their teeth, fists and feet into.
Indonesian martial arts-based action has been the arguable cream of the crop ever since “The Raid” took the world by storm in 2012, and “Exiled” has that same determined grit written all over it.
Hopefully, action lovers will just be able to sit back and enjoy a wild ride of contained survivalist martial arts, physical stunts and mayhem when “Exiled” arrives on Amazon Prime in a weeks’ time!
