Wu Assassins: Supernatural martial arts series debuts August 8 on Netflix!

Just in case you might have missed this…In the past few years, Netflix has risen to become one of the leading players in the English-speaking world for martial arts aficionados. Whether it’s been the platforms of various Marvel titles, Timo Tjahjanto’s “The Night Comes For Us“, or the Korean-actioner “Revenger“, the streaming giant has been behind some of the most gripping martial arts action of the last few years. Now, Netflix is set to add another feather to that particular cap with the upcoming 10-episode supernatural martial arts series “Wu Assassins”. Not long now to wait, until August 8th, when the series makes its debut on Netflix, do check out the trailer below if you haven’t already!

Fans of “The Raid” films will instantly recognize Iko Uwais in the role of the series’ protagonist, Kai Jin, with the trailer further populated by a Who’s Who of martial arts heavy hitters, to include Byron Mann, Mark Dacascos, JuJu Chan, and Lewis Tan. Per the series’ official synopsis:

“Wu Assassins  follows Kai Jin, a young Chinatown chef in present-day San Francisco, as he becomes entangled with the Chinese Triad’s pursuit of deadly ancient powers known as the “Wu Xing.” After an encounter with a mystical spirit, Kai reluctantly becomes the Wu Assassin, using his enhanced martial arts skills to recover supernatural powers from five modern-day criminals threatening to use them to destroy the world.”

As you can see from the trailer, “Wu Assassins” promises to be one seriously action-packed series, and one that places Iko Uwais into very new territory with its fantasy elements. The gimmick of having Kai Jin effectively morph into centuries-old ancient warriors is also sure to be a fascinating plot device, with the fight sequences seemingly shifting Kai Jin into a completely different character when he draws upon the power of the Wu Assassin. Coming right off of his show-stealing appearance in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum“, Mark Dacascos is sure to leave streaming audiences grinning ear-to-ear once again, while Byron Mann, who excels at channeling villainous gravitas, is clearly bringing his A-game to the series’ antagonist, Uncle Six. For action fanatics, “Wu Assassins” is unquestionably one of 2019’s “Can’t miss” titles!
