There’s been much hemming and hawing in the past few months over the release date of the upcoming “Tekken” prequel, based upon the highly-popular “Tekken” fighting game series. However, fans can at last breathe a sigh of relief, now that not one, but two trailers for the film, titled “Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge” have arrived online.
Set sometime prior to the first film, the prequel will see Kane Kosugi in the role of a man named K, presumably Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken” video games, who awakens to find his memories gone, and who finds himself transformed into a cold-blooded assassin.
Gary Daniels and Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa reprise their roles of Bryan Fury and Heihachi Mishima from the original film, while Kelly Wenham, Ron Smoorenburg, and Brahim Achabbakhe, who also served as the film’s fight choreographer, join the cast in the roles of Rona, Thorn, and Rip, respectively.
Martial arts films adapted from fighting games seem to be experiencing something of a resurrection lately, with both “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” and “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” having received tremendous praise from fans of each series. Can “Kazuya’s Revenge” replicate their success? Only time will tell, but given the names attached to it, it’s a pretty safe bet that it can!
“Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge” will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 12, with the film seeing a theatrical release in certain territories on August 21!
