With the annual Fantastic Fest kicking off in Austin, Texas this week, the focus for martial arts aficionados has been the impending release of “Headshot” director Timo Tjahjanto’s long-in-development Silat-FUelled action-thriller “The Night Comes for Us”, set to premiere at this year’s festival. Fortunately, anyone not able to make it this year can still catch a tiny glimpse of what the film has in store, courtesy of the newly-released action clip below!

The new clip comes courtesy of Spain’s Sitges Film Festival, where the film is also set to screen early next month. The official synopsis released by Sitges reveals what fans can expect from it:

“An ex-hitman must protect a young woman while trying to escape from the triad gang he used to belong to. During his getaway, a violent battle breaks out on the streets of Jakarta. After making our hair stand on end in “May the Devil Take You”, Timo Tjahjanto delivers his second film this season: a hyperbolic urban action movie, essential for any fan of adrenaline.”

The road to completion for “The Night Comes for Us” has certainly been an arduous one, with the film entering development back in 2012, and developmental hurdles being significant enough to lead Tjahjanto to consider releasing it in the form of a graphic novel at one point. However, a journey of a thousand miles always begins with a single step, and the clip above featuring Joe Taslim of “The Raid” fame certainly makes the journey seem worthwhile – as does the film reuniting him with his co-star from “The Raid”, Iko Uwais (serving as fight choreographer) along with the final boss of “Headshot”, Sunny Pang.

“The Night Comes For Us” is set to premiere at the 2018 Fantastic Fest which runs until next Thursday 27th September. Stay tuned for more info on the film’s release as it Comes For Us!
