“Sudden Master” series coming to YouTube!

As hard as it may seem to believe, “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” isn’t the only martial arts heavy web-series to keep on your radar. The makers of the upcoming series “Sudden Master” recently released their first trailer on YouTube, which carries a distinctly “Kung Fu Hustle”-esque blend of slapstick action and surreal comedy!

Written by Samantha Wan and James Young, “Sudden Master” will follow the adventures of Alex Wu, played by Wan, in her quest for vengeance against the “Dark Daggers” clan of assassins responsible for her father’s murder. To aid he on her quest, Wu trains under the wise Li, Grandmaster of Kung Fu. According to the series’ producer Davin Lengyel, the aim of the series is to blend the dynamic of a heroine trying to balance a normal life with her vigilante exploits as seen in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with the wild, hyper-stylized martial arts seen in the likes of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Kill Bill”.

The action direction is being handled by former Canadian Wushu team member Sunny Tang and Casey Hudecki, founder of  TEMPER: Combat Performance Arts. Meanwhile, Alex Duong and Jeff Why will juggle dual roles in both stuntwork for the series, as well as handling the Dark Daggers themselves.

If the teaser is anything to go by, “Sudden Master” aspires to be very Jackie Chan-like in its blend of action and comedy. And as well all know, that’s a formula that just never, ever gets old!
