RZA Opens Kung Fu-Themed Bar with Alamo Drafthouse!

Ever fantasized about stepping into a bar right out of a Shaw Brothers movie? You can bet that RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan sure has, and now, he’s partnering with the famed Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain to make that dream a reality. With Alamo Drafthouse set to establish a new location in Staten Island, New York in 2019, the chain has partnered with RZA to establish a kung fu-themed bar in the new location, aptly titled “The Flying Guillotine”!

Alamo Drafthouse is well-known for its themed bars in its theaters, along with its attachment to the annual Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. For “The Flying Guillotine”, the chain is set to carry the distinct visual flair associated with the Shaw Brothers films. In an official statement, RZA shared his enthusiasm on the new venture with Alamo Drafthouse:

“It’s an extreme pleasure to be partnering with Alamo Drafthouse on their Staten Island location. When I first visited Alamo Drafthouse in 2004, I was blown away by the food, drink, and service that accompanied a slew of cool, genre and time-crossing films. The kung fu film selection was my favorite, and the opportunity to see these classics once again on a large screen returned me back to my youth.”

Along with serving an assortment of themed beers and cocktails, The Flying Guillotine will also feature a video store offering free rentals of martial arts classics, in addition to a vast array of posters and kung fu memorabilia. The Staten Island Drafthouse will also host monthly screenings of kung fu classics, with The Flying Guillotine hosting after-parties and other related events. While The Flying Guillotine and Alamo Drafthouse’s Staten Island location won’t open until next year, you don’t have to wait to listen to RZA himself personally give you the rundown on the new location, as you can see below!
