Fun Friday – Master Ken teaches defense against a club!

“Speak softly and carry a big stick.”

Those words continue to resonate in all four corners of the Earth as the ultimate virtue of combat preparedness. Since the dawn of time, the most basic of melee weapons has been the club. It’s striking power is notorious, as is it’s versatility. With a little ingenuity and craftsmanship, the club can be modified into a lighter leaner weapon, the stick or staff, capable of delivering multiple strikes in far more rapid succession. Perhaps the most universally recognized melee weapon in all martial arts, entire styles have been devoted to perfecting the art of deploying the staff in combat, and warriors have trusted it since time immemorial. However, the yin and yang of the staff of no different from any weapon of combat technique – just as important as learning to wield it in combat is learning to defend against it.

Fortunately, Master Ken once again has the perfect solution derived from his renown fighting system, Ameri-Do-Te. In the latest video in his “Enter the Dojo” series, Master Ken does what he does best, and what all to few martial arts instructors attempt to do, and takes his student from defense and into offense. Like all techniques in Ameri-Do-Te, not only does Master Ken demonstrate the perfect staff disarm, but also the ideal technique for turning the weapon against the attacker. Heed Master Ken’s words and use the techniques of Ameri-Do-Te wisely, readers – what Master Ken demonstrates here could very well make the difference between life and death, not only for you but for the opponent, as well!
