UFC 205 Preview

Is this the best MMA fight card EVER?

Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez has been officially announced by the UFC as the main event for UFC 205 on Saturday November 12th. To be held at the world famous Madison Square Gardens, the event is the company’s first in New York since the state legalised MMA and the UFC have seized the opportunity to put on a great event for the first time in the state.

Three championship fights and a stack of other fantastic match ups mean that UFC205 could be one of the biggest and best fight cards MMA has ever seen, despite two impressive events already this year with UFC200 and UFC202, both pulling in huge numbers.

Newly crowned champion Tyron Woodley has his first welterweight title defence against karate stylist Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, whilst Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her strawweight title against fellow Polish native Karolina Kowalkiewicz (both undefeated thus far).

Several former champions and fan-favourites make up the rest of the card, the biggest non-title fights include Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum(welterweight), Miesha Tate vs. Raquel Pennington (bantamweight), Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens (featherweight), Tim Kennedy vs. Rashad Evans (middleweight). Former UFC middleweight champion and New York native Chris Weidman takes on Yoel Romero in the middleweight class.

The event could potentially attract a record number of viewers for an MMA event. Drawing on the star power of Conor McGregor, fighting for a second title, as well as a host of big names and top fighters means it will pull in both die-hard fans and newcomers drawn to thishigh profile combat entertainment.
