“Beyond Skyline” sequel in the works!

2017’s “Beyond Skyline” may well have been the first of its kind – a sci-fi adventure blending copious amounts of martial arts action into an alien invasion thriller. With such a novel concept executed to such a high level, it goes without saying that there are many more stories that can be told from that premise. Fortunately, fans of the film are in FOR MORE with news from the American Film Market (AFM) about the development of the next installment in the series called, “Skylines”!

“Beyond Skyline” saw Frank Grillo team up with Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian of “The Raid” fame, taking place during the same alien invasion as its 2010 predecessor, “Skyline”. The film would see our heroes leading a band of human survivors against an alien invasion in the jungles of Southeast Asia. “Skylines” will reportedly see Lindsey Morgan reprise the role of Rose, now leading a counter-assault on the alien invaders.

The official synopsis gives fans a glimpse of what “Skylines” has in store:

“Skylines’ centres on Captain Rose Corley, a human with extraterrestrial superpowers that mean she is the only person powerful enough to vanquish the marauders. When a virus threatens to turn earth-dwelling friendly alien hybrids against humans, Corley assembles an elite team of mercenaries on a mission to the alien world to save humanity.”

Additionally, “Beyond Skyline” director Liam O’Donnell will reportedly return to script “Skylines”. O’Donnell’s scripting and direction of the previous film in the series proved to be among its strongest assets. The film’s blend of stunning kung fu action with an alien invasion not only felt organic, but also helped establish “Beyond Skyline” as one of the most unique and original sci-fi action thrillers in years.

Along with “Skylines”, O’Donnell is also set to write and direct “The Last Savage”. Described by O’Donnell as “Tarzan meets Gladiator”, the project reportedly focuses on a boy shipwrecked on a remote island and raised by tigers who is subsequently captured by a gang of hunters and forced to do battle in a gladiatorial arena. It would seem O’Donnell’s penchant for genre hybridity is alive and kicking indeed!
