Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Trailer Arrives!

Gamers around the world and fans of fighting games in particular, have no reason to be anything less than ecstatic for 2017. The New Year will bring with it a cornucopia of exciting new gaming titles and in the fighting game genre, the highly anticipated “Injustice 2” and “Tekken 7” are both keeping eager gamers on pins and needles ahead of their releases and justifiably so, as anyone familiar with either franchise will attest.

However, we can now add a third fighting game title to 2017’s grocery list in the form of the newly announced, “Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite”.  Check out the new gameplay trailer below!

The Marvel vs Capcom series dates back all the way to 1996, when gaming giant Capcom introduced the greatest crossover the gaming world had ever seen up to that point in the form of “X-Men vs Street Fighter”. The title was followed by “Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter” the following year, but the series truly kicked into high gear with 1998’s “Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes”, which expanded the roster to draw from both the pantheon of the Marvel Universe and the treasure troves of Capcom’s entire gaming library.

The series would strike gold once again with 2000’s “Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes” and is often counted among the best fighting games of all time. Unfortunately, gamers would have to wait until 2011 for the next chapter in the series, “Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds”, but it would certainly prove to have been worth the wait. The title would subsequently be expanded in “Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3” later that year.

“Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite” draws its title from the introduction of the “Infinity Stones” into the series, relics of ultimate power found within the Marvel Universe. At the moment, the confirmed character roster includes Captain America, Iron Man and Captain Marvel from the Marvel roster, with Ryu, Mega Man X and Morrigan from Capcom. Mega Man X will doubtlessly be a major selling point of the title among gamers, given that the absence of Capcom’s flagship character from both iterations of “Marvel vs Capcom 3” was widely seen as a glaring omission from the roster of playable characters.

It’s currently unknown which other Marvel or Capcom characters will be included, but the kind of speculation that’s bound to lead to is the sort of thing geeks live for! With the ongoing success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters, it’s a safe bet that every Avenger included in past installments will return, along with Spider-Man, Wolverine, other members of the X-Men and “Deadpool” as very likely inclusions, as well. Additionally, with the upcoming “Iron Fist” Netflix series, his return from the previous installment would most certainly be welcome, as indeed would the inclusion of “Daredevil“, curiously absent from the series up to this point and their fellow Defenders, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Throw in Black Panther, Vision, Black Widow, and Blade, and no Marvel fanboy will have the slightest inclination to feel disappointed!

As for Capcom characters, the franchise has always drawn heavily from the “Street Fighter” universe and with “Street Fighter V” having dropped earlier this year and Ryu already confirmed, the quantity of characters pulled from the franchise is likely to be substantial. “Resident Evil” characters also featured heavily in the last entry in the series, so you can expect their presence to continue here. However, if you would indulge me in a bit of fan casting, the title character of Capcom’s 2012 sleeper hit “Asura’s Wrath” would make an exceptional addition to the franchise. Capcom already dipped their toes in these very waters by including Ryu and Akuma as DLC characters and the inspiration the game took from Hindu and Buddhist cosmology in its story and gameplay would make Asura (which in ancient Sanskrit असुर) -translates as; powerful superhuman beings, demigods or demons possessing good or evil characteristics) a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel vs Capcom franchise, as you can see below!

“Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite” is set to be released sometime in 2017 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Stay tuned for more info as it descends into our world!
