Time to break out the champagne! With just under three days left until its Kickstarter campaign ends, “The Martial Arts Kid” has surpassed its goal of raising $150,000, currently sitting at $155,501 and counting. The film, described on the Kickstarter page as “a spectacular coming of age family action film that is founded in traditional and mixed martial arts”, unites martial arts legends such as Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock, and Bill “Superfoot” Wallace, with renown stuntman, fight choreographer, and screen baddie James Lew handling the duties of action director.
The film will follows the adventures of a teenage boy named Robbie, portrayed in the film by Krav Maga practitioner Jansen Panettiere, who moves to Cocoa Beach, Florida and finds himself the victim of the toughest bully in town, Bo Whitelaw. Under the tutelage of his Aunt Cindy and Uncle Glen, played by Rothrock and Wilson, Robbie gradually learns to stand up for himself against the bullies, and develops the confidence to pursue the prettiest girl in school, Rina.
Also appearing in the film are 9-year old world champion Nassim “Young Dragon” Lahrizi, stunt man and motion capture performer T.J. Storm, and Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido practitioner Matthew Ziff, who was named “Hollywood’s Newest Heartthrob” by Hollywood Magazine in 2012.
The film may have surpassed its $150,000, but that’s no reason not to chip in a few more bucks in the three days the Kickstarter has left! To contribute to the film, or to find out more about its upcoming release, be sure to visit the links below.
