The Defenders trailer arrives online!

In 2012, the Marvel Cinematic Universe made history by converging its various solo series’ into the mega-budget superhero crossover “The Avengers”. Now, five years hence, another team-up in the Netflix corner of the MCU is preparing to make landfall in”The Defenders”, which just released its first full trailer that you can see below!

Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones will each reprise their respective roles of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist from each character’s eponymous Netflix series. Many of the supporting players of each series are returning as well, including Scott Glenn, Deborah Ann-Wohl, Elden Henson, Elodie Yung , Carrie Ann-Moss, Simone Missick, Jessica Henwick and Rosario Dawson in the role of Claire Temple, the connective character of all four series. Additionally, The Defenders will have their work cut out for them not only battling the vicious ninja clan known as “The Hand”, but the diabolical villainess pulling strings from behind the scenes, Alexandra, played by the one and only Sigourney Weaver!

In a recent interview with Forbes, showrunner Marco Ramirez described how each Defender’s respective abilities and fighting styles will manifest in their eight-episode team-up:

“It’s kind of like imagining a musical composition, and everyone has their own instrument. We have to work our way for Matt to do some cool parkour-y stuff, Danny to use his fist in some awesome way, Luke to use his strength and invulnerability in some cool way, and Jessica to just be a badass brawler.

Coming at them from an emotional perspective is how we write those fight scenes, so Luke ends up being the protector, and Danny and Matt end up becoming the offense. Jessica is kind of the reluctant punk rock member of the band who doesn’t want to be there, but who’s really awesome. It’s making sure each of the characters can really pop.”

Martial arts aficionados will have an additional incentive to check “The Defenders” out with the news that Chilean action star Marko Zaror of “Undisputed 3“, “Redeemer” and the upcoming “Savage Dog” will also appear in the series in the role of Shaft, a member of the ninja clan “The Chaste”, alongside Daredevil, Stick and Elektra making the show an absolute must for Marvel devotees. There’s also what looks like a version of the incredible one-take hallway brawls seen in “Daredevil” incorporating all of The Defenders glimpsed in the new trailer!

“The Defenders” is set to premiere on Netflix on August, 18th. Stay tuned for more info on the show as it arrives and be sure to check out our reviews of the first  and second seasons of “Daredevil” and the first season of “Iron Fist“!
