Natan Levy (a 2nd Dan Uechi Ryu karate student) talks candidly about his decision to leave his beloved dojo in Israel to enter the world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
He has trained under the world renowned tutelage of Master Shai Hai (see our exclusive interview with him here) who in turn was trained under one of the most highly respected and recognised Japanese karate masters: Shinjo Kiyohide. His dojo is one of the best in all of Japan having produced multiple world champions.
Natan, now in his early twenties, focuses on training his ground game in the US out of Syndicate MMA Gym, Las Vegas. Natan possesses a level headed personality, commitment to learning as well as that phenomenal trademark breaking ability.
Here’s what he says on the learning and growing process:
“Many people tell me, ‘you’re already a second degree black belt, why do you keep training everyday? You’re not going to learn anything new’. But that’s crazy, everyday I learn something new! You need to be like a sponge, the moment you stop studying, it’s not about second degree, fourth degree, that doesn’t matter, you stop learning the second your head closes and you think you’re good and you’re satisfied with yourself too much, that’s your worst enemy”.
He compares his need to fight, like a fish needing to swim, now that’s hardcore! A fighter to look out for? We certainly think so. Good luck Natan!
