Michael Jai White launches Indiegogo ‘fanpaign’ for The Outlaw Johnny Black!

At the beginning of 2018, we already had something to anticipate in the form of action star Michael Jai White‘s tease of a follow-up to his 2010 Blaxploitation send-up, “Black Dynamite“. After a short trailer tease on what that might entail last month, we now know that Black Dynamite’s adventures will take him to the Wild West in the forthcoming “The Outlaw Johnny Black”, which has just launched a crowdfunding ‘fanpaign’ on Indiegogo, and also released its hilarious new trailer, that you can see below!

Whether the new project is meant to set up Johnny Black as a nineteenth-century ancestor of Black Dynamite’s or is simply transplanting the original film’s form and structure into a Western setting, the project’s proof-of-concept clearly has the DNA of “Black Dynamite” coursing through its veins. The trailer is also rife with cameos from both stars of the original film, including Byron Minns and Kym Whitley, along with “The Karate Kid” villain Martin Kove and UFC champ Josh Barnett, who previously appeared in White’s 2016 directorial outing, “Never Back Down: No Surrender“.

The “Black Dynamite” concept originated when White was listening to James Brown’s “Superbad” on his iPod whilst on the set of “Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing“, which subsequently led to script a spoof of the blaxploitation genre that would become “Black Dynamite”. The film was later spun-off into an animated series on the Cartoon Network adult programming block, Adult Swim. You can see White and the film’s cast and crew share the genesis of “Black Dynamite” from the film’s panel at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con below.

To support “The Outlaw Johnny Black” and take advantage of the ‘fanpaign’s’ many perks, be sure to visit the official Indiegogo page. Stay tuned for more info on the film as it ‘quick draws’ towards us! What are your thoughts on the trailer above and what Michael Jai White movies and fights do you ‘dig’ the most?
