Holly Holm victorious at UFC193!

In what has already become by far the most talked about MMA match of 2015, Holly Holm now officially sits on the throne as the UFC Women’s bantamweight champion, following her victory over Ronda Rousey on November 15th. The match is also notable for being just the second of Rousey’s career to make it beyond the first round!

A fourth degree judo black belt who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Rousey has risen to become perhaps the most recognizable face in the world of MMA. Holm herself holds the distinction of being the only fighter to win titles in both boxing and MMA.

Both Rousey and Holm entered the fight on Saturday undefeated, and as the match began, Holm held Rousey off with a crippling series of punches that took a visible toll on the reigning champion, and each of Rousey’s takedown attempts on Holm would ultimately prove futile.

The second round began with Rousey’s face bruised and bloodied, and Holm ultimately took the victory at the 59 second mark with a powerful roundhouse kick to Rousey’s head that knocked the judoka out cold. Since Holm’s victory, rumors abound that Rousey experienced a broken jaw from the kick to her head, but those rumors have since been debunked by Rousey herself via the following post on her Instagram Sunday evening which you may have read:

“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.”

Holm will soon have the opportunity to show off her capabilities as an action star with her appearance in the upcoming “Fight Valley”, alongside her fellow MMA fighters Meisha Tate and Cris Cyborg. Rousey herself will also soon be seen in “Mile 22”, alongside Iko Uwais of “The Raid” films, and in the role of Dalton in the upcoming remake of “Road House“.
