Fun Friday – Shaolin Punks!

This week, KFK will be taking a break from the usual Fun Friday post relating to Master Ken, and his undefeatable art of Ameri-Do-Te. Though he ultimately disapproves of any martial arts-related content not explicitly connected to Ameri-Do-Te appearing on KFK every Friday, he has assured us that none of us will be on the receiving end of his Kill Face or Thrust of Freedom for our decision to devote this week’s Friday column to another subject, though he has made no promise about the Hurticane. We can only hope that we will live to next Friday without dying at the hands of Master Ken’s wrath!

For this week’s Fun Friday, we take a look at the hilarious web-comic “Shaolin Punks”. The series, which just wrapped up its first season, is the brainchild of Philadelphia based filmmaker and cartoonist Joey Corpora. The comic focuses on the outlandish adventures of our titular Shaolin Punks, two enthusiastic martial arts students named Nitro and Goose. Under the tutelage of the wise Sensei Galileo, our two heroes are determined to achieve the rank of black belt. However, their mentor deems them unfit at present, and enlists them on the daring mission of reclaiming his mother’s secret spaghetti sauce recipe from their most ruthless enemy, Master Enzo of the Enzo clan. However, our heroes soon find themselves in the heart of a new conflict when the gargoyles outside of the Enzo Temple come to life, who kidnap the warring factions. Now, it’s up to Nitro, Goose, and their close friend Sky to save the day!

The entire first season of “Shaolin Punks” can be found on Corpora’s website, kungfuspacebarbarian.com, and is also available in graphic novel form on Amazon.com. You’d better hurry and catch up with the first season of “Shaolin Punks”, too – the second season is currently in the works! For more information on when the season two of “Shaolin Punks” will arrive, be sure to visit the kungfuspacebarbarian.com, as well as follow the site’s official Twitter page!
