Since around 2010, “jaw-dropping, Silat-fueled martial arts action thrillers” have quickly transformed into Indonesia’s number one export, owing to the well-deserved popularity of “Merantau“, “The Raid” and “The Raid 2“. This weekend, the upcoming Silat smackdown “Headshot” is set to hit theaters in Indonesia, with action star Iko Uwais returning to the spotlight after anchoring all three of the aforementioned films.
While those of us in the English-speaking world will have to wait a little longer, a final trailer, along with two behind the scenes featurettes, have just dropped to make the wait that little bit easier to endure!
Under the direction of Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, Iko portrays Ishmael, a young man who awakens in the emergency room with a bullet in his head and a bad case of amnesia. As he tries to piece together his life before being shot in the head, he quickly finds himself on the run from some bloodthirsty pursuers, with only his exceptional Silat skills to protect him. The film also re-unites Iko with his co-stars from “The Raid 2”, Julie Estelle and Very Tri Yulisman, aka Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man!
“Headshot” premiered back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival, and has steadily been making the rounds on the festival circuit across North America and the UK earning some highly positive reactions along the way – to the surprise of absolutely no one who’s seen “Merantau” and “The Raid” films, of course. Sadly, the new making-of featurettes come sans English subtitles, but when it comes to all things Silat, we know that actions speak far louder than words!
“Headshot” hits theaters in Indonesia on December 8th. Stay tuned for more info on the film’s release in the English-speaking world as it shoots through!
