Warrioress on UK release 26 May

Release of Warrioress marks first of many for female independent filmmakers

16 May 2014: Fantasy action adventure, Warrioress  is being released in the UK on 26 May 2014 from British independent filmmakers at Fearful Symmetry Productions http://www.fearfulsymmetryproductions.co.uk/. The film has also won a distribution deal with supermarket chain, Tesco.

The first film on general release from Fearful Symmetry, Warrioress is created by a female-led team headed by champion martial artist, actress and experienced stunt performer, Cecily Fay, who also stars in the adventure as lead character, Boudiccu.

Setting this story of blood and betrayal, test and triumph apart from the crowd are its strong female leads that bring blistering action scenes to bloody conclusions. The film’s predominantly female cast of warriors and fighters marks a unique first in the UK film industry for independent filmmakers of fantasy, sci-fi and action films.

Throughout the film, Fay and her female co-stars deliver breathtaking, world-class, hard hitting action, performing all their own fight sequences and stunts with no wirework or stunt doubles, in a true antithesis of the big budget movie world.

Fearful Symmetry is an independent filmmaking firm that intends to set the male dominance of the UK film industry straight; the film industry globally is dominated by men (The Independent, 12 January 2014  http://ind.pn/1dGYLJE), while research from the BFI shows women are continually underrepresented in UK independent films as writers and directors; according to the statistics from the BFI’s Female Screenwriters and Directors of UK Films 2010-2012, only 11% of the 413 directors associated with the UK indie films over the three year period were female (The Guardian, 26 November 2013 ).

Warrioress, written by Fay and co-directed by her alongside director, Ross Boyask, is the first in a gamut of new films set to be released from Fearful Symmetry that will showcase female writers, directors, crew and cast.

2013 also saw Fearful Symmetry beginning production on its second film, sci-fi fantasy Babes With Blades: Flower of Sarnia. Babes with Blades is now in post production and is due for release late 2014.

Warrioress Synopsis:
In the tradition of Xena, Warrior Princess, and influenced by seminal fantasy films such as 300 and Excalibur, Warrioress combines a unique, mystically-infused atmosphere with thrilling action scenes. In this world of mysticism and philosophy, ruled by dominant highly trained female warriors, the world is held in the grasp of the dark and malevolent Falonex Empire, and two distinctly different villages hold a deeply-held sworn belief in a powerful prophecy that will bring them salvation. Once in every generation one chosen fighter from each village must travel on a quest across treacherous terrain to a sacred circle formed of ancient stones, to fight a ritual sword duel, each armed with a sacred sword. If the two warriors are of equal skill and wield the sister swords ‘The Opener’ and ‘Dragon Singer’ they will fulfil the Prophecy and lead the fight against the Falonex Empire. The time has come again for the prophecy to be fulfilled and the two fighters will meet at the predestined place. But will they meet as friend or foe?
