Scorpio Sky: Top 5 AEW Wrestling Matches

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Schuyler Andrews aka “Scorpio Sky” (now 39), is a member of the Men of the Year and reigns over the AEW mid-card as the TNT Champion.

Born April 2^nd, 1983, Sky grew up as a wrestling fan with legendary wrestlers Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle providing the driving inspiration behind his pursuit of a wrestling career.

After graduating from high school, Sky considered enlisting in the army, but instead opted for college, before dropping out in pursuit of a wrestling career.

Sky began his training under the Revolution Pro Rudos Dojo, and made his pro wrestling debut for Revolution Pro in 2002 under the masked identity, Gallinero Tres. That persona was short lived, however, as he re-emerged as his current persona, Scorpio Sky.

A year later, Sky debuted for PWG (Pro Wrestling Guerrilla) where he reunited with former Revolution Pro wrestler, Quicksilver, forming The Aerial Express and winning the Tag Team titles.

Around 2006, Sky dubbed himself the “Scorpio Sky Experience” and would go on to beat the likes of Chris Hero, Homicide, Kevin Steen and Human Tornado. Although this persona was received negatively by fans at the time, it helped elevate him to become one of the top dogs at PWG.

During this period of success, Sky formed The Dynasty; a group consisting of himself, along with Jade Chung, Joey Ryan, Chris Bosh and Scott Lost. He would also go on to have a heated rivalry with Frankie Kazarian.

From 2012 to 2013, Scorpio made a few appearances on WWE programming as part of Bryan Danielson’s anger management class and posing as a firefighter for the Ring of Fire match between Kane and Bray Wyatt in SummerSlam 2013.

Following this, Sky would take a break from Pro Wrestling for two years to pursue a career in MMA as a Welterweight with team The Guild. From 2014 to 2015, Sky built up a 2-1 record of one knockout and one submission (via armbar).

Scorpio would spend two years in TNA (now known as Impact Wrestling) under the name, Mason Andrews, before returning to Ring of Honor in 2017.

It had been seven years since Scorpio had appeared on Ring of Honor, but he would make the best of his second run by challenging Cody Rhodes for the World title, even partnering with former rival Frankie Kazarian to become the World Tag Team Champions and a World Six-Man Tag Team Champion with Christopher Daniels, thus forming the trio, SoCal Uncensored.

Sky would be one in a long list of wrestlers to move to AEW during its inception around the start of January 2019, with Sky and Kazarian being crowned its first World Tag Team Champions by winning the 2019 tournament.

After becoming the first man to pin Chris Jericho in a tag team match, Sky was granted a world title shot at Y2J.

After several failed attempts at the AEW TNT Championship, Sky would join forces with Ethan Page to form Men of the Year and go on to have one of the longest-winning streaks for an entire year.

On March 9^th 2022, Sky would finally win the TNT title by defeating Sammy Guevara, and although he would lose the championship a month later at Battle of the Belts II, he would regain it two weeks later.

With a newly customised championship around his waist and a presence that just screams confidence, Scorpio Sky is aiming to become the most dominant TNT Champion in AEW history.

5. Vs. Frankie Kazarian – Rampage 41 (May 13, 2022)

After splitting from SoCal Uncensored to make a name for himself, Scorpio Sky would cross paths with his former tag team partner, Frankie Kazarian.

It had been fifteen years since these two had last fought each other in their PWG days, and now they were getting to go at it again, this time with the TNT Championship on the line.

The chemistry between these two was as enthralling as ever. With their history and past experience carrying over into the match as they tried to outshine each other’s manoeuvres, ultimately resulting in spotless counters.

Kazarian was still in good shape for a guy in his mid-forties (now 44), giving the champion, and former partner the toughest fight of his life.

Despite the outside interference from Ethan Page and Dan Lambert, it was going to take more than a cowardly assault to keep Kazarian down. The ambush, however, did buy Scorpio Sky enough time to recover and finish the job himself, connecting with the TKO and retaining his title.

Despite the interference, this was a solid undertaking from the two former friends-turned enemies.

4. Vs. Cody Rhodes – Dynamite 45 (Aug. 12, 2020)

After spending two months stacking up seven straight wins in singles competition, Scorpio Sky challenged Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship. This was Scorpio’s first shot at the TNT belt, but going up against “The American Nightmare” was not going to be a walk in the park by any means.

Knowing full well the impression he had to make, Scorpio Sky pulled off some daring manoeuvres from outside of the ring and countered “The American Nightmare’s” most vicious assaults.

Scorpio was also able to kick out of the Cross Rhodes finisher and escaped the Tombstone Piledriver, before connecting with a Jumping Flatliner.

Despite the valiant effort from the former Tag Team Champion, Scorpio Sky’s luck could only last so long as “The American Nightmare” connected with a second Cross Rhodes, securing the pinfall win and retaining his title.

Scorpio Sky may have come up a little short here, but his tenacity and “never give up” approach cemented his potential as a main eventer.

3. With Frankie Kazarian vs. Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix – Dynamite 5 (Oct. 30, 2019)

Around the first year of AEW’s existence, SoCal Uncensored became the dominating force in the tag team division, reaching the finals of the 2019 tournament to determine the first ever AEW Tag Team Champions.

The only thing standing in the way of total dominance were the Lucha Brothers, (yep they’re real brothers) Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix.

Throughout the match, SoCal Uncensored made their supremacy known with deadly coordinated manoeuvres, but the Lucha Brothers made an explosive comeback, took control of the match, and separated Scorpio Sky from his partner by powerbombing Kazarian onto a table.

Despite being alone and outgunned, Scorpio Sky kept himself in the game, fighting off the Lucha Brothers and enduring their devastating combinations.

Just when it looked like it was game over for SoCal Uncensored, Scorpio Sky was able to counter the Package Piledriver into a small package, with Kazarian returning to the ring, stopping Fenix, and giving his partner the chance to score the pinfall win.

This enabled them to become the first ever AEW World Tag Team Champions.

2. Vs. Sammy Guevara – Dynamite 127 (Mar. 9, 2022)

In the main event on Dynamite, Scorpio Sky challenged TNT Champion, Sammy “The Spanish God” Guevara in his third chance at the title.

Since the start of 2022, Scorpio Sky was undefeated and thus entered this match bringing with him an unrivalled amount of momentum as a serious challenge to Guevara’s reign.

This was a strenuous grudge match between these two men who just went at each other, with Scorpio Sky utilizing his MMA skills to target the injured body of Guevara, while proceeding to taunt the champion.

Despite the constant strain on his body, Guevara dug deep and set about nailing down his comeback, working with the pain and utilizing his most vigorous offensive to end the match quickly.

Guevara’s efforts were in vain, however, as Scorpio Sky stopped the Shooting Star Press in its tracks and connected with the TKO, becoming the TNT Champion for the very first time.

Finally reaching the top of the mid-card, Scorpio Sky became the first athlete in AEW history to win the TNT and Tag Team title in a star-making performance.

1. Vs. Sammy Guevara – Dynamite 134 (Apr. 27, 2022)

Only a month after winning the TNT title, Sammy Guevara, “The Spanish God”, would win the belt back from Scorpio Sky at Battle of the Belts.

Despite the sudden loss of his championship, Scorpio Sky was determined to regain it, and what better way to do so than via a ladder match!

With the second most precious prize hanging from above the ring, these two warriors went all out, pulling off some of the most breathtaking stunts you could ever wish to see in a ladder match.

When plain old ladders weren’t good enough, a ladder wrapped in barbed wire came into play, much to the delight of ECW fans who were craving their nostalgia.

This match was a gruelling affair with both athletes busting out surprising counters; from an Aerial Cutter to a C4 on the barbed wire.

Scorpio Sky would reclaim the TNT Championship in a battle that illustrated not only his growth as a star, but also his determination, and Guevara was exactly the right opponent through who to make that happen!
