Mortal Kombat: Legacy II coming to Blu-ray!

As countless fans have rejoiced at the debut of “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” this past May, many have also found themselves in mourning over the fate of another web-series also adapted from one of the most popular fighting games of all-time, “Mortal Kombat: Legacy”. Like “Assassin’s Fist”, it began as a short fan film on YouTube, “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” that ultimately spawned the series, and which included the likes of Michael Jai White, Matt Mullins, Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa, Casper Van Dien, Darren Shahlavi, Eric Jacobus, and Mark Dacascos among its stellar cast.

Series director Kevin Tancheron ultimately departed from the series in October of last year, leaving the future of the series uncertain and fans inconsolable, especially given the cliffhanger ending of season two. However, Tancheron would restore the jubilation in the hearts of fans with his announcement in March of this year that he was still planning to direct the series third season. Casper Van Dien similarly dropped hints of the series’ continuation with a not-so-cryptic message via his Facebook page..

Now, almost a full year after its debut on Machinima’s YouTube channel, season 2 of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” is set to debut on Blu-ray on October 14th. The release seems particularly interesting, given Joey Ansah’s recent revelation that “Assassin’s Fist” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in English-speaking countries this October, as well. As fans continue to salivate about the future of both series, what could be more fitting than to see two series based on two of the greatest fight games ever made side by side on video-store shelves this fall? Now, if we could just get some solid information on that upcoming “Tekken” prequel…

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out season two of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” on Machinima’s YouTube Channel!
