Legend of Korra game coming this fall!

Fans of Nickelodeon’s popular animated series “The Legend of Korra” will get their chance to bend the elements with the titular Avatar in the upcoming video game adaptation of the series! The upcoming game is set to be released as a digital download on October 21st on the Playstation Network and on the Xbox Games Store the following day.

“The Legend of Korra” serves as a sequel series to the hit animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Both series take place in a world divided into four nations that each correspond to a different element – the Fire Nation, the Air Nomads, the Water Tribe, and the Earth Kingdom. Warriors from each nation learn to harness their martial arts skills to allow them to control or “bend” the element of their respective nation.

In the series, the Avatar is a continually reincarnated spirit tasked with maintaining order throughout the world, and is the only person capable of bending all four elements. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” follows the adventures of Aang, the last surviving member of the Air Nomads who must assume the mantle of the Avatar. “The Legend of Korra” takes place seventy years after it’s predecessor and follows the adventures of Korra, Aang’s successor to the mantle of the Avatar.

Both series draw heavily off of Asian cultures, mythologies, and martial arts, and have been enormous hits that are often ranked among the best animated series of all-time. In developing the art of bending, the show’s creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko turned to Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association, who specifically designed the bending of each element to correspond to a different martial art – Baguazhang for Air, Tai Chi for Water, Hung Gar for Earth, and Northern Shaolin for Fire.

The upcoming game, set to take place between the second and third seasons (or “Books”) of the show, will present fans with a unique challenge with Korra having her bending abilities stolen from her by a chi-blocker and having to regain them over the course of the game.
