K&K Productions releases D.R.Y.

The recent London Sci-Fi 48 Hour Film Challenge 2014 presented aspiring filmmakers with a unique and daunting challenge. As its name implies, the challenge called upon participants to film, edit, and submit short films into the competition in the span of just 48 hours.

It certainly doesn’t take a Steven Spielberg to tell you that “challenge” is certainly the right word to describe such an endeavor. However, it’s one that K&K Productions was certainly more than up to, as you can clearly see from their entry, “D.R.Y”, written, produced, and directed by George and Harry Kirby.

As with all entries into the competition, K&K Productions were given a specific set of criteria by which they were expected to abide. In this case, it involved the title of film itself, along with some specific props and dialogue issue on the morning the competition began, along with the aforementioned 48 hour deadline.

For “D.R.Y”, the Kirby’s and K&K Productions sought to incorporate their love of action and martial arts films into their short, and they drew inspiration from wuxia films such as “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers” in particular. Of course, everyone involved in the creating of the short was more than up to the task.

The action choreography was handled by the short’s leading man Aaron Ly along with Jason Curle, with the group Ronin fight crew assisting. Even without it looking them up, it’s clear that more than a few people involved in the film, both in front of and behind the camera, have considerable experience in action films and stunt work!

Ly’s resume includes the films “Fast and Furious 6” and “47 Ronin”, the latter also featuring his co-star Bruce Chong as a stuntman. Jason Curle’s stunt history includes “Thor: The Dark World” and the popular TV series “Game of Thrones”, along with this summer’s “Malificent”. Links to the cast and crews IMDB pages and YouTube reels can be found below the video.

“D.R.Y” is also hardly the first outing from K&K Productions. Martial arts lovers will find plenty to sink their teeth into on the group’s YouTube channel, a rather appropriate pun given one of their previous films, “Martial Arts vs Zombies”! And honestly, who doesn’t love seeing those two things combined?

After seeing what K&K Productions are capable of, and on such short notice no less, be sure to follow them on their official website, along with the group’s YouTube channel, and Twitter and Facebook pages!

To see all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into completing “D.R.Y” in time for the 48 hour deadline, be sure to watch the behind the scenes video below!
