Following the release of 2007’s “Rush Hour 3”, the lukewarm reception of the film had left the future of the “Rush Hour” series in a state of limbo. Though a fourth installment has been said to be in development for some time, there was nothing solid to go on until the announcement last fall that the franchise will continue as a television series. Now, it seems that the show has found its Detective Inspector Lee in the form of martial artist and stunt performer Jon Foo.
The English-born Wushu champion began his stunt career alongside Jackie Chan himself in the film “The Myth”, and later made appearances in Stephen Fung’s “House of Fury” and Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins”. Foo rose to prominence following his role in 2005’s “Tom Yum Goong“, where he engaged Tony Jaa in a blazing sword duel, and he would later go on to portray Jin Kazama in the live-action “Tekken” film, based on the acclaimed fighting game series. Foo would also briefly portray another video game character, Ryu in the short film “Street Fighter: Legacy” which served as the basis for the hit web-series “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist“, though Foo did not return for the series, in which Mike Moh assumes the role of Ryu. More recently, he was seen in the Crackle series “Extraction” and the films “Bangkok Revenge” and “Vikingdom”.
Given that Foo is almost thirty years younger than Jackie, it’s entirely possible that the new series will actually be a prequel to the first “Rush Hour”, but that’s purely speculation. Jackie himself has recently re-affirmed his interest in making another film in the series, so the two may very well end up being produced side by side.
