Jaa, Uwais, Chen and Stahelski Board Triple Threat!

Individually, Tony Jaa, “Iko Uwais“, and Tiger Chen are names instantly recognizable to action fans across the globe, but they’ll soon be forming a Holy Trinity of martial arts masters in the upcoming “Triple Threat”, aptly renamed from the original title of “Makeshift Squad”. As if that on the nose title upgrade wasan’t enough, however, news has also broken that 87Eleven alumni and “John Wick: Chapter Two” director Chad Stahelski has stepped aboard!

Scripted by Dwayne Smith, the film focuses on a Chinese martial artist who travels to Mexico to rescue his ex-wife and their son after they are kidnapped by a vicious cartel. Xiaolie Wang will co-direct the movie, with Stahelski serving as action director.

To say that the stuntman turned filmmaker has come a long way would be a huge understatement. Going from finishing scenes for the late Brandon Lee on 1994’s “The Crow“, Stahelski would go on to do stunt work and fight choreography on everything from “Spider-Man 2” to “Fist of the North Star” to “300”. Of course, his greatest trick would ultimately be going from Keanu Reeves’ stunt double on “The Matrix” to directing him alongside fellow stunt veteran David Leitch on the 2014 sleeper hit “John Wick“. The upcoming sequel, “John Wick: Chapter Two” will see Stahelski fly solo in the director’s chair, with Leitch filling the same role in the upcoming “The Coldest City”.

“Triple Threat” appears to be emerging as one of the most dynamic and hotly anticipated martial arts action films on the horizon and with such an incredible team both in front of the camera and behind it, it’s certainly for good reason. Stay tuned for more info on “Triple Threat” as it comes in!
