Six years ago, Gina Carano was the face of women’s MMA. Today, she continues her successful transition into action films, and is set to join Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming film “Deadpool”.
Based on the popular Marvel Comics character, Deadpool is also known to his fans as “The Merc with a Mouth” for his never-ending stream of wisecracks, and his propensity for breaking the fourth wall. The character first made an appearance in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, portrayed by Reynolds (with a little help from Scott Adkins during his climactic fight with Wolverine and Sabretooth.) Many Deadpool fans expressed disappointment with his depiction in the film, specifically the gimmick of having his mouth sewn shut and thus rendering him unable to deliver the one-liners he’s famous for. However, the new film, which will be released next February and will serve as a reboot of the character, is said to feature no shortage of Deadpool’s wacky antics.
Carano will portray the character Angel Dust, who possesses the power the raise her adrenaline levels. She is also set to join Bruce Willis in the action film “Extraction”, and will be seen later this year in “Kickboxer: Vengeance”, which will serve as a reboot of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1989 cult classic “Kickboxer“, alongside Van Damme himself, no less!
