Fun Friday – Master Ken teaches Board breaking!

Boards may not hit back, but they provide a great use to martial arts practitioners, nevertheless. Specifically, in developing and harnessing the power of their strikes to the maximum level possible. Going through one board is relatively easy once you’ve developed the proper form and coordination to your punch, but imagine going through ten boards? Better yet, what if you upped the difficulty level and replaced those ten boards with bricks, cinder blocks, or a few slabs of dry ice? Anyone with that amount of power behind their strikes is not a person you’d want to take a hit from, and like everything else in martial arts, the journey to achieving that level of power begins with the basics, which in this case involves the art of board breaking.

Master Ken, founder of the revolutionary modern style of Ameri-Do-Te, knows the true value of breaking boards in martial arts training well, and makes it an integral aspect of every Ameri-Do-Te student’s training. Of course, you’ll see much more than the typical fist or foot strike to split a board when a practitioner of Ameri-Do-Te is involved. The art of board breaking is as much about conditioning the body to withstand any impact as it is unleashing their might on the opponent, and as you will see, Master Ken’s training regimen takes his students through an approach to body conditioning not found in other styles. Of course, the highest level of board breaking involves splitting the board from a distance with the patented Ameri-Do-Te “Kill Face”, but like all things in martial arts, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!
