Black Salt short film coming!

The current popularity of comic book movies shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and now, a new costumed crime fighter is ready to join the ranks of superheroes making the leap from the pages of comic books to the silver screen. That man is Black Salt!

Directed by Ben Ramsey, well-known to martial arts fans for helming “Blood and Bone” with Michael Jai White, “Black Salt” is a short film based upon the acclaimed martial arts comic book series. The film will focus upon the exploits of Interpol’s deadliest black ops agent, Samuel Tharpe, who must stop the deadly weapon of mass destruction, the Extreminatus, from bringing about another Holocaust in the Far East!

In order to complete his mission, Sam will have to seek the help of the Abbot of China’s famed Shaolin Temple, and prove his worth by besting the Abbot’s most formidable fighter. Fortunately, Sam has his own background in the ways of Shaolin, training under the wise Yu Bai Shek, and he’ll need it if he’s going to complete his mission!

Kinyumba Mutakabbir will take on the title role of the film, while veteran stunt man and fight choreographer James Lew will portray Abbot Xiao of the Shaolin Temple. Another accomplished stunt performer, Arnold Chon, will portray Monk Sing, while Michelle Lee, Sheena Chou, and Panuvat Anthony Nanakornpanom round out the cast in the roles of Horse Ripper, Li Jing, and Rain, respectively.

The short is set to begin filming in July, with the goal for it to serve as a the foundation for a feature film. And the filmmakers have quite an elaborate strategy to draw attention to the “Black Salt” short to make that goal a reality!
