Interview with Dean Alexandrou

We recently had the pleasure of spending some time with UK martial arts action star Dean Alexandrou.

Dean has an extensive background in physical performance, martial arts and gymnastics. His physical performances are noted for their cutting-edge and innovative choreography.

Initially heading to Hong Kong, Dean ended up working as a stuntman in Thailand.

Having forged a career as a stunt performer in the Thai film industry, Dean landed leading roles in two pan-Asian, theatrically released action films “Hanuman” and “The Brave”. He has had supporting or physical roles in several notable projects such as “Batman Begins”, “The Hangover II”, “Scorpion King 3”, “Shanghai”, Tony Jaa’s “The Protector”, and even appeared in a Pepsi commercial with Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce Knowles.

Dean is a filmmaker in his own right, co-directing and action directing the short film “Dohard”, which was screened at the 2010 Doha Tribeca International Film Festival in front of the Qatari Royal Family.

His project-trailer for “Shanty Town Showdown” became a YouTube hit, showcasing his gravity-defying skills and martial arts prowess.

A long-time collaborator with “Who Am I?” star Ron Smoorenburg, the pair are soon to be seen in the action thriller “Reflex”. Dean, who also wrote the screenplay, gave us a behind-the-scenes look, and we can tell you, ACTION FANS ARE IN FOR A TREAT!

Check out our interview with this talented rising star who has already had a fascinating career working with the likes of Tony Jaa, Panna Rittikrai, Prachya Pinkaew, Ron Perlman, John Cusack and Chow Yun Fat, to name but a few.

  • Great interview with Dean, in my eyes an absolute movie genius and fantastic action actor/stuntman. The Falls he makes are just incredible and rare for example. I got to know him more and more during the last years and its just an amazing co-op.... Hes an amazing human person and his way of thinking and solving things got a big impact on me actually.. He also inspired many many people by making Reflex, to do their own movies... Also the way he creates fight scenes was even a form of mathematics involved.. but that he will tell you by himself maybe....if you would know how he did that you would be so amazed...

  • Well said, Ron. Dean is an exceptionally talented martial artist, stunt performer, and action director, and we were so fortunate to speak with him. I cannot wait to see all of the amazing action and stunt work you and he crafted in the upcoming Reflex!

  • When will he [Dean] get the recognition and fame that he so clearly should ?!?!
He is an exceptional martial artist (better than Ray Parks, Joey Ansa and even Scott Adkins).
