FunFriday – Fighting with a broken leg!

On December 28th, 2013, the rematch between Anderson “Spider” Silva and Chris Weidman at UFC 168 brought into clear, sharp focus the true destructive power of martial arts when Silva seemingly liquefied his shin after his low roundhouse kick was blocked by Weidman’s leg. Silva is said to be on the road to recovery, but the horrific injury will supposedly keep him sidelined from training or fighting for up to six months. Over the course of his career, Silva has been recognized as one of the most skilled and formidable fighters in the world of MMA, but his unfortunate injury highlights the importance in martial arts of being able to work through injuries and ignore pain. However challenging they may be to overcome, the true spirit of martial arts asks of us to be able to continue fighting under such circumstances, and it is this willingness to fight through the pain that is one of the defining characteristics of a true warrior.

That being said, there does come a point when no amount of determination or drive can supersede the severity of whatever injury we find ourselves suffering through, and Silva’s shattered tibia is a prime example an injury that cripples the fighter far beyond even the highest tolerance for pain. Or, so it would seem. Where most would declare Silva down for the count, Master Ken has arrived to reveal the true cause of Silva’s defeat – his lack of experience in the most formidable martial art known to man, Ameri-Do-Te!  Among the many characteristics that set Master Ken’s ingenious combat art apart from all others, Ameri-Do-Te students are trained to work around broken limbs and other seemingly fighting finishing maneuvers. Whether you hold aspirations of glory in the Octagon or seek to add every possible tool to your martial arts arsenal for combat on the street, this is one Ameri-Do-Te lesson you simply cannot afford to miss!
