Bellator MMA 179 Press Conference with Rory MacDonald!

On Tuesday, at a hotel in Kensington, London, the second instalment of the press conference for Bellator 179 was held, this time featuring both fighters in the main event, Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley and ‘The Red King’ Rory MacDonald.

MacDonald stated that in his recent UFC fights, his last two being losses, that his head hadn’t been fully present in the game and was distracted from his original intentions of finishing fights, opting to win decisions and points score instead. He promises that the old Rory, who came to finish fights, will be back this time to face Paul Daley.

Not present was UK MMA sensation Michael ‘Venom’ Page who was down with the flu. His opponent, Derek Anderson, was present and seems keen to build the hype and momentum train going into his fight with MVP, saying that he hopes MVP talks enough trash to give him a reason to want to beat him.

Rory MacDonald and Paul Daley did not engage in too much verbal sparring and the two clearly have plenty of respect for each other, despite that MacDonald stated he originally intended to face current Welterweight Champion, Douglas Lima, but the timing wasn’t right for that match.

Scott Coker, coming from a ‘traditional martial arts background’ (himself a Taekwondo exponent) admitted that he is excited to see MVP fight again, as he is the kind of fighter he enjoys watching. Coker said that it is great for the company to have fighters of his calibre in their prime competing in big match-ups.

Also in attendance was TNA world heavyweight wrestling champion and MMA crossover superstar Bobby Lashley, the gigantic athlete will fight on the card for Bellator in London with his opponent soon to be announced!

The fight night will be shown on UK television, with a one hour tape delay, on Spike UK and Channel 5 on the night. The event takes place on 19th May at Wembley’s SSE Arena get your presale tickets available from 10am today!
