New Injustice 2 trailer released!

It can most certainly be said that the 2016 San Diego Comic Con was an absolute waterfall of exciting, geek-friendly news this year! On the fight-gaming front, the upcoming “Injustice 2” definitely brought thunder in its wake with the latest trailer pitting Wonder Woman against Blue Beetle which you can see below!

The latest offering from NetherRealm Studios and WB Games, producers of the last two “Mortal Kombat” games, “Injustice 2” is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 smash “Injustice: Gods Among Us”, which essentially serves as DC Comics’ answer to Marvel’s Civil War. In an alternate reality from the main DC continuity, Superman establishes a New World Order after the Joker pulls a trick on him that ultimately results in the destruction of Metropolis in a nuclear blast, the death of Lois Lane and his unborn child. The Batman of this world leads a rebellion, which ultimately divides the heroes into factions, leading Batman to recruit the Justice League of the main DC Universe (or Earth One) to his insurgency.

Upon its release in April 2013, “Injustice” was an immediate hit and would prove to be one of the most popular and best-selling video games of the year. To delve further into the game’s story line, DC Comics started a comic book series that would serve as a prequel to the events of the game, with the series’ popularity proving so great that it continues to run today in its “Year Five” iteration. Even Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” would include major “Injustice” Easter Eggs in its famed Knightmare sequence! “Injustice 2” will reportedly also have a comic book series tie-in, taking placing after the conclusion of the first game.

Naturally, Batman and Superman themselves as playable characters goes without saying in “Injustice 2”, while other DC characters confirmed for the sequel include Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Blue Beetle, Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, and Supergirl. Little is known about the game’s story at present, except that it will follow on the events of the original, with Batman and his allies battling loyalists to the New World Order as a new threat emerges that puts the Earth at risk.

Stay tuned for more info on “Injustice 2” as it descends and be sure to check out the original announcement trailer along with 15 minutes of gameplay footage below!
